Erik Sink: No programmers

Wednesday, June 15th, 2005

This is a pretty popular article, much forwarded, but it never fails to be relevant. Especially for Viamentis, because it’s a startup. This is one article we have to keep in mind when we start hiring more developers. Eric explains why a programmer mentality is not a good idea for a start up. We need developers, who are ready to get down and dirty with different aspects of software development, not just coding. We are looking at well-rounded, passionate people who do more than just code. Here’s the excellent article:

Wonderful article: Small is the new big by Seth Godin

Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

Wow. Just found this nice article by Seth Godin. It certainly is encouraging when you feel intimidated as a small company taking on biggies in a high-tech field. It gives me plenty of ideas of how to market Viamentis. It has no short supply of brain power, it’s only the way I position it that makes the difference. Certainly something to chew on. Cringely Strikes Again

Friday, June 10th, 2005

Wow… I always liked Bob Cringely and his writing. His articles on state-of-the art in technology are simply superb. But lately I haven’t been paying much attention to his writing because he talks about wireless routers and the Burst vs. Microsoft case, which is not very interesting to me. But the latest, on Apple going Intel, is one of his finest. You can find it here:

Or, maybe I think so because it validates what I’ve been suspecting for a while. Apple is making cool computers - PowerBooks are almost sensual. As I see it, for an average consumer, he can happily shift to Mac now. Why do I need to buy buggy windows when I can get a spiffy Mac OSX, virus-free, secure and more or less pretty stable.
