Is that amazing or what! It’s called the Falkirk Wheel, a very clever way of connecting two canals. Click on the image to go the article discussing it.

Back from a long trip!

Hmm. Things can change so fast in life. I have trouble believing that I have known Rails only for around six months now. My life has changed so much since I have known it.

I have come back from a long trip to LinuxAsia 2006 (spoke on ruby and rails), went home, went to Yanam (my native place – to visit my grand parents), attended my classmate and good friend’s wedding, finally back in Chennai. Hectic schedule, yes.

LinuxAsia was awesome. I met so many good people, and the organizers are simply superb. I met Alolita Sharma, CEO of technetra, which is one of the companies behind LA. She might have been one of the nicest people I have met in for a long time. Certainly, one of the most down-to-earth and smart CEO’s I have met.

It’s a more business-oriented than foss.in, which is a pure geek conference. LA attracts the like of VCs, CEOs of startups and budding entrepreneurs. Very exciting, and is completely different from foss.in. I should thank Dibya Prakash, CEO of Reevik, Pune who convinced me to attend this awesome conference. I am going next year!

At home in Srikakulam, my troubles to get my laptop connected to the net are endless. None of the cybercafe guys have ever heard of linux before, and I had to badger them for gateway, dns servers and all such things before I could connect to the net. Sigh. Some places in India are so far away from the IT revolution.

From home, I went to Yanam, visited my grandparents and met some of my school friends. My oh my. What a difference 8 years can make. Some friends are married, some are getting ready to, and many are happily settled into ‘life’. Interesting how moving to a different place can completely change people’s mindsets. I can still see the same old traits in my friends, and I used to think in the same way. Now, I can see the difference between my thought processes and theirs.

Finally attended the wedding of my college buddy & roomie for 2 years, Varma. It was a nice wedding, the bride and the groom are good looking, and they make a nice pair. I hope they have a very happy married life. Varma and I are never the ‘best friend’ types, but we shared a respect for each other, and still do. He’s happily settled in life too, working for an IT major.

My trip’s pictures are on flickr, just click on any of the pictures on bottom right to see the full album.

I saw this story in one of the blog posts I read, and it’s simply amazing and inspiring. Which makes me think: How can I build such a company where fired employees hang around, sneak into premises and finish a project that no longer officially exists? Ladies and gentlemen, the amazing Story of the Graphing Calculator.
